As the country gears up for the implementation of the
Home
information pack regulations industry figures
continue to be very anxious about the state of
preparedness.
The
Law
Society, the Royal
Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS),
Council of
Mortgage Lenders and the
National Association of
Estate Agents have all expressed major concerns.
A Law Society spokesman
suggested that the government in "charging ahead" with
the new regulations was being "reckless". They suggested
that one of the key benefits of the HIP - energy
efficiency performance certificates - was too onerous
and actually went further than was required by Brussels.
The air of caution continued
with RICS claiming that "officials are blindly pressing
on" ignoring market realities.
The government maintained its
firm line on the packs asserting that the changes were
necessary and of great benefit to the public. The
debate will no doubt continue until the changes take
place and the industry gets to grip with the harsh
realities of the reforms.
