Energy performance certificate assessors - will there be enough to meet demand?

As  the 1st June 2007 date for the introduction of Home information packs draws near, more negative news is being publicised by industry experts. The latest round of scare mongering stories relates to the apparent lack of Assessors who can provide the key energy performance  certificates.

These certificates have become an important part of the HIP because they will notify prospective purchasers of the good points and bad points that a property has in respect of its energy and ecological performance. The problem seems to be that the government has not trained enough inspectors / assessors to do the job. Around 8000 will be needed yet it is thought that only 1500 have been trained. There are thousands currently in the process of completing their training but as ever the negative slant seems to have been placed on the current levels of qualified personnel.

The pack regulations will be introduced on the 1st June regardless of the negative attitude being shown by certain industry bodies. It is time for the big names to support and assist the implementation

NOTE: The information is subject to amendments as the Government  alter certain aspects of the regulations in the build up to implementation. Please read our disclaimer.
